A Century Later – Bobby Foster

Bobby Foster is Events and Programmes Manager at the Spectrum Centre on the Shankill Road. He has written a book, ‘Away Up Thonder’, about Highfield, Woodvale and Glencairn. Bobby is, like myself, a strong advocate of social history.

In this video, recorded for Northern Visions Television, he describes the dramatic events of Bloody Friday, 21 July 1972, from his perspective.

The events of this day would prove to be the spur which pushed many young men in the direction of the loyalist paramilitaries.

  1. I would like to purchase Bobbys book. Way up Thonder. I grew up with Bobby and Jim Mills and remember Tommy Mills well. Left Highfield around 1973 and lost touch with everyone.
